I’m Brandi Bowen, an award-winning, published, fine-art photographer with more than 25 years of experience in photography and digital imaging. My passion for photography started in the darkroom, where I used my father’s vintage 35mm film camera and learned to retouch photos long before Photoshop became mainstream.
I've been an artist my entire life. I'm an accomplished painter, illustrator, and designer, and this naturally ties into my love for photography.
I majored in Graphic Design and Minored in Photography at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. While I love big cities, I grew up in a small town, later in the islands of the Outer Banks (not the TV show—the REAL OBX), and later in Charleston, South Carolina. My home base varies between Savannah, Georgia, the mountains of Montana and Colorado, and the beautiful Triangle of Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina.
What photography means to me...
Photography is not just taking a camera and pushing a button to capture an image. To some people, that is what it is - a simple action.
To me, it is much more than that. It is looking at the moment of life that literally disappears in front of you, in the blink of an eye. I have just a micro-second to create something magical that will be converted into something generations will treasure forever. And this is something I take very serious.
Another part of my passion with photography, is that life is short and love is precious. You are rare. Your family is rare. Your story and your love is rare. This is why your photos should be the same - a rare work of art that tells your story.
Some of my most treasured photos are the last ones ever taken of family members, and to me, those are the most important ones because they leave a legacy of that person for everyone’s family to have, to let them live on. When you decide to work with me, it is an honor that you put your trust in my craft. Every wedding, elopement, family, individual, couple and editorial session, I approach different and that is why I am so passionate about what I do - because life is art in motion. Never stopping. Always moving. And as mentioned earlier, I want nothing more than you give you a gallery of images that your generations will find as the rarest moments of some of your biggest milestones in your life.
